Personal History

Hi! I'm Josh Siemers and have loved the thought of racing quads since I could walk! It all started out when my uncle Jake took me for my first ride on his Yamaha Blaster back when I was a young kid. I really got into racing when I went to one of his races on his 2000 Honda TRX400EX.  He raced hare-scrambles with it until he cracked a bunch of his ribs when he went over the bars into a tree during one of his races and found out that he had a kid on the way, then, in the winter of 2003-2004 my parents, Jenny and Paul, got my brother, Jake, and myself our first quad, a 2003 Kawasaki KFX80. I took a much bigger liking to it than my brother ever did. He enjoyed showing dairy cattle at the county, district, state and national level along with my sister, Lauren and my dad.  I enjoy showing dairy cattle too, as it is the rest of my family's passion, just simply not as much mine. I enjoy racing much more! As time went on, the KFX 80 got beat on and turned into a mangled mess. We sold it to our neighbor who fixed it up for his kids to enjoy, and I had saved up enough over a summers work on the farm to buy myself a 97 Yamaha Blaster. I owned it for about 6 months before it blew up, so I did a complete overhaul, thinking that I might end up ice racing it that year. Aftermarket exhaust, full intake system, nerf-bars, teather kill switch and some wheels and tires were some of the main things that I did to it besides the engine rebuild, and I learned a lot tearing it all down and jetting it right and what-not. Believe it or not, the week after I finished it, my uncle gave me a call and offered me a trade, his old 400EX for my Blaster because he knew I wanted to race and his son is old enough to handle the blaster. I couldn't pass that trade up! I ended up ice racing the 400, and did half of a motocross season on it until I sold one of my show heifers for $10,000 to a family friend, so I started looking for a 450 because I knew that I was never going to be competitive enough on that old clapped out 400. I ended up finding a fairly built LTR-450 for a steal less than 6 hours away! We went out to look at it and I instantly fell in love. I rode hard the rest of the season and finished with third place over all in my class (Quad C) at Gravity Park USA. To fund some of my racing, I work as an apprentice at Riesterer and Schnell, a John Deere dealership in Chilton, WI. I also help out on my dads 2700 cow dairy farm, Siemers Holsteins, in Newton, WI, driving semis to haul in crops during the summer. Another job I have at General Beer Northeast (Miller product distributer) as a weekend merchandiser. I'm currently enrolled at Plymouth High School as a junior in Plymouth, WI.

Riding Goals

As a racer, my top priority for next year is to be able to run more nationals and be finishing races. This year, nationals didn't go as planned for me. Sunset Ridge was my first national race ever and the races on sunday ended up being canceled, then at Millville, I cased the uphill triple in friday afternoon practice and ended up snapping the linkage tabs right off of the frame and breaking my rear shock in half. A kid from around me who runs the nationals let me race his quad, but he runs Hondas and I ride Suzukis and have never rode a Honda in my life. In my moto saturday, I missed my rear brakes because of the bulky gas tank which I was not accustomed to and ended up over the bars. We had a fair amount of rain at the track saturday night and sunday the track was super sloppy and I chose not to race because I didn't want to wreck his quad. Carrying on to Redbud, my best national from the year, I tried out a different set of tires and they did the trick for me. My lap times instantly dropped and I had much more control, however in my heat, I ended up losing my seat and had to stop for a few seconds to tuck my programmer into my airbox so I didn't lose it which ended up costing me a 6th place heat finish and put me into the LCQ. I took 4th in the LCQ which was the last transfer position. I could have pushed for 3rd, but I didn't want to crash and end my weekend early so I stayed in 4th and kept my pace. In the main, I had last gate pick and was stuck on the far outside. I managed to be 19th in the holeshot, but only because someone else crashed. I kept on pushing and in the 4 laps I was out there, I was able to make it up to 12th place. Next year, my goal is to win at least 1 450C class and have no finishes below top 10. I am also pondering racing Open C too, but we will see and go with the wind. To do this, I am trying to save up for a practice/backup quad so I don't have races like Millville. The 2015 season was also a very difficult one because I wasn't in shape when the season started. I'm going to be working out 3-4 times a week to stay in shape so I can come into the season strong and not have issues with stamina.
