Personal History

My name is Samantha Amelia Morandi, I am 22 years old from Walpole, Massachusetts. I have only been riding ATVs since 2013 and started racing ATV motocross full time last year (2015). This comes after 2 years of taking photos for the NEATV series part time in 2013 and 2014, now full time in 2015 and 2016. In 2014, I found myself more interested in the riding aspect, and raced a TRX Sportrax 90 for two of the races just for fun. In 2015 I went to every race after purchasing a 2004 TRX 250EX, and continued to take pictures while racing the Sport 13+ class. It was not until halfway through my 2015 season that I decided to run two classes, and started to run the Women’s Open class in addition to the Sport 13+ class. I ended the year being the Sport 13+ champion and finished 5th Place in Women’s Open. This year I have competed in the New England ATV Race series, and I have raced the NCSC dirtbike series here in MA that allows quad classes. Since I am taking photos at the tracks, I always find meeting new people, and walking around the pits, promoting all my sponsors.

Living in MA, there are very little practice tracks around that allow ATVs, however when quads are allowed, I always find a track to go to get some extra seat time in. Usually the tracks are mostly dirtbikes, however I still go out for practice on my quad, willing to mingle with others, while having fun on the track with the other riders, regardless if the bikes have two wheels or four. Through racing NEATV, I met my best friend and main sponsor; the Moore’s Motocross family. Not only do I consider them my second family, the team they sponsor is a group of riders that help each other out, both on and off the track, and want each other to succeed just as much as they want to themselves. Having a team and support system like this teaches me how to be a team player, even in an individual sport. I take pride in being a part of their team this year and next as I continue to build my relationships as well as myself and reputation both on and off the track.

Riding Goals

My goal for this year was to get to as many races that I could, purchase a new to me/bigger bike, and finish what I started at the beginning of the season. Thankfully, I was able to accomplish that and more thanks to great sponsors, and great people at the track and in the series. After making the switch from a semi-automatic shifting bike, to a built race bike with a clutch, I was not expecting to finish the season off very well due to the many adjustments I had to make with my riding style, the new bike, and my confidence level. If it wasn’t for my sponsors I have now, my best friends supporting me, and all the help I have received from everyone in the series in a time of need, I do not think I would have raced half the series, nor placed in the top 3 in both of my classes this year. My goal for next year is somewhat similar to my goals of this year, allowing me to believe in myself and my future success. For next year, I plan to get to a track as much as possible, and get used to my bike enough to upgrade to the final step for me of riding an ATV with a 450 motor. I also am setting a goal for myself to finish in the top 3 of the Women’s Open class at NEATV, and place in the top 10 of College Boy or Open C with the guys, if Sport 12+ is no longer a class. I am also hoping to be able to attend and race the ATV Nationals in Daytona, as well as Unadilla next year. With all of that being said, all I really want is to better myself in more ways than one for the 2017 season.
