Personal History
my names Dan Shellard and i race enduro in the uk i ride QUAD EVENTS UK, GRAVITYLC and ORE EVENTS. i also do non championship events such as the QRA great 8 endurance race and Weston beach race,. I started riding quads at ages 6 , i used to go to a local MX track every Sunday early before the motocross bikes would come. when i was aged 8 i wanted to start racing but found out that i could only race a 100cc quad , at the time i was riding a 200cc 2 stroke geared Yamaha blaster. so i got a 100cc quad and started racing , the quad i had wasn't competitive enough for me to have any real good results. when my 2009 season wasn't going well i decided to make the move to the 250cc class aged 12. I did the last 3 rounds of the 2009 250cc b class season and got 2 4th place finishes and a 3rd. in the 2010 season i did well and won the championship before the last race of the year. the 2011 season i moved to the 250c a group and missed the first round of the gavitylc championship and the first race of ore championship i dropped a valve and blew up the engine. i had 3 race wins , 3 seconds and a last place where i dropped out due to worn piston rings and not wanting to cause anymore damage. overall at gravitylc and finished 5th, . 2012 i won the first round of the British xc championships and ore events round one but then at round 2 of the British championships i fell off and broke my steering stem causing me to go to 4th in the championship. my next race would be the ore events Internationale quad fest. a 3 hour enduro on a mx track. i teamed up with my friend Jack Hurley and we were hoping to do well . i went out on practice/ qualifying but some system errors cause us to be one of the few that times didn't get recorded , also before the race my kill switch had been playing up not letting my bike start. We had planned for me to stat the race and then jack to go out after me. typically my bike wouldn't start on the line which cause me to be nearly last on the first lap. going over a jump just after tagging my swingarm snapped as i landed and flew me over the bars and i broke my leg. i have been resting it and now is fully healed.
Riding Goals
For the rest of my season on my 250 i am going to France soon to ride the loon plage sand track this will be the first ride of my quad since the crash. after that i will be competing in the QRA great 8 endurance race , 4 hour team event. i will be doing this with the same partner Jack Hurley. after this i will be doing the ore events king of quad / round 4 , where i will be entering as a team but racing separately for point at the end they get added up and the winners get 500 pound cash prize and a big trophy. next will be the weston beach race and that will be my last race of the season.
next year i will be moving to the 450cc class on my 2012 yfz450r se , i am entering novice as i will only be 15 and the clubs only allow you to enter novice until your 16.
